Plant Engineering Use Cases

How engineering contractors keep cold chains stable despite rising pressure

Cold chain systems are facing new and increasing demands. Tighter regulations, rising energy costs and ambitious climate goals require refrigeration solutions that perform flawlessly – day and night. Slide though our three real-world examples of how engineering contractors, together with us, deliver high-efficiency cooling systems that combine compliance, resilience and innovation.

Cooling performance under pressure: Even at 38 °C ambient

For its 43,000 m² logistics hub in Lisi Ogon, ALDI Nord needed powerful and efficient cooling for frozen and chilled goods across several temperature zones. Working with a system integrator, Güntner supplied EC fan-regulated condensers and adiabatic gas coolers—ensuringtemperature stability even during Polish summer heatwaves.

What we integrated:

  • High-performance cooling with CO₂ refrigerants
  • Digital integration via myGüntner for full control

Protecting post harvest quality in challenging climates

Post harvest garlic is highly sensitive to temperature and humidity fluctuations. In Brazil, a leading garlic producer needed a storage solution that would maintain quality over many months and secure supply year round. Together with the plant engineering team, we designed a cold room concept that keeps the product within tight temperature and airflow tolerances – even under high ambient conditions – and supports a stable cold chain from harvest to market.

What we delivered:

  • Custom configured air coolers for uniform temperature and gentle airflow across densely stacked products
  • An energy efficient, low maintenance installation that supports long term storage and quality retention

Uniform ripening for high density fruit chambers

A major fruit ripening facility in Dongguan (China) needed reliable conditions for thousands of banana boxes stored in tall, double layer chambers. Working with the engineering contractor, we supported the chamber design and provided an air cooling solution that keeps temperature and humidity within tight bands across every pallet – a critical link in the cold chain from plantation to retail.

What we delivered:

  • Dual VARIO Air Coolers mounted above the centre aisle for uniform airflow and 90–95 % relative humidity across all pallets
  • Engineering support for chamber sizing, load calculations and air distribution to secure consistent ripening results

Three very different sectors. One consistent engineering challenge

Whether in food logistics, cultural institutions or hydrogen energy – reliable cooling is non-negotiable. These projects may differ, but they all needed:

  • Resilient performance under real-world stress
  • Scalable designs that fit space and capacity limits
  • Long-term maintainability with digital control options

Güntner helps engineers meet these needs – on time, on spec and with confidence.
